The AICE consortium gathered in Odense, Denmark, this October for our annual in-person meeting, hosted by Region Syddanmark. With less than a year to go before the project concludes in August 2026, the meeting provided a timely opportunity to assess progress, connect across teams, and look ahead to our final phase of work.
As one team member put it, “You can feel the momentum building. Meeting face-to-face helps us move from updates to decisions.” That sentiment set the tone, and indeed, meeting in the same room brought a welcome change of pace after months of virtual collaboration. Discussions focused on how far we have come and what remains to be done. We are advancing our validation work in Scotland, deepening interdisciplinary collaboration on the Position Statement regarding the expected value of AI in colon capsule endoscopy, and preparing publications to broadly share our findings. There was a clear sense of alignment and shared purpose as we move into this last year of AICE.
Beyond the formal sessions, there were also lighter moments. A local baker joined us for a short demonstration on Danish pastries, a much-appreciated break that quickly became a highlight of the day. The traditional local pastries were a particular favourite, and a specially made cake was presented to Professor Marilyn Lennon to mark her birthday.
The Odense meeting reaffirmed the strength of collaboration across partners and the momentum driving the project forward. With validation activities underway, papers in progress, and the app and ethical frameworks developing in parallel, among many other activities, AICE is well-positioned for a strong final year.
As we count down to August 2026, the focus is clear. Finish well, share our results widely, and ensure AICE leaves a lasting impact beyond the project itself.
