On 15 November 2024, Madeleine Hayenhjelm, who leads the Ethics Work Package for the AICE Project, delivered a compelling talk entitled “Getting the Ethics of AI Right” as part of the #frAIday series at Umeå University. The event, held via Zoom and Galaxen, was well-attended both in-person and online, sparking thoughtful questions and lively discussions.
In her talk, Madeleine explored the role of “grey documents” – guidelines from governments, academia, and industry – in shaping ethical AI development. She highlighted the critical need to anchor these frameworks in philosophical moral theory to address gaps in their effectiveness and ensure a more robust ethical foundation for AI.
The session offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on the ethical challenges of AI and generated meaningful engagement on this vital topic.
