On World Cancer Day, 4 February 2025, we reflect on the progress being made in cancer detection and the work still ahead. Colon cancer remains one of the most common cancers, but early detection can transform outcomes. At AICE, we are committed to making screening faster, more accurate, and easier to access through AI-supported image analysis in large bowel capsule endoscopy.

This year, our focus is not just on advancing AI algorithms but also on ensuring that our transformative digital health project is people-centred. We are co-designing a Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM) and a digital app in collaboration with patients and healthcare professionals. Through focus groups and iterative workshops, we aim to shape tools that genuinely reflect the needs and experiences of those who will use them. By involving stakeholders at every stage, we want to ensure that our solution is user-friendly, supportive, and impactful in real-world healthcare settings.

World Cancer Day is a reminder of why this work matters. When cancer care is designed around people – their experiences, concerns, and well-being – it leads to better outcomes and a more compassionate healthcare system. By working together, we are moving towards a future where colon cancer is detected earlier and less invasively, giving more people the chance for timely diagnosis and life-saving treatment.
