AICE had a standout year in 2024. Our team shared results, led expert conversations, and forged new collaborations across Europe and Asia.     Anastasios (Tassos) Koulaouzidis presented AICE’s work on artificial intelligence in colon capsule endoscopy for colorectal cancer diagnostics.

    Anastasios (Tassos) Koulaouzidis shared AICE progress on AI assisted colon capsule endoscopy.

    Benedicte Schelde Olesen spoke on the clinical perspective of developing AI algorithms for colon capsule endoscopy.

    Madeleine Hayenhjelm presented a poster on AI from an ethics of risk perspective and joined the panel How should AI be regulated?

    Kristian Dalsbø Hindberg gave a seminar on AICE and algorithm development for colon capsule endoscopy.

September 2024

  • ESCP 2024, Thessaloniki, 25 to 27 September
    Three AICE colleagues presented abstracts and promoted AICE through e-posters and networking:
    • Alexandra Agache on protection methods for colorectal anastomoses
    • Camilla Thorndal Nielsen on faecal microbiota transplantation for diverticulitis
    • Benedicte Schelde Olesen on cleansing quality in colon capsule endoscopy, aligned with AICE research

October 2024

  • REFLECT 2024, Nyborg, 7 to 8 October
    Coordinated by Lene von Fintel Petersen. Professor Esmaeil Nadimi presented AI in colon capsule endoscopy – AICE in the Software and AI session, and the team used networking to engage clinicians, researchers and industry.
  • AICE Ethics Workshop, Nyborg, 9 October
    Led by Madeleine Hayenhjelm. Around 35 participants from clinical practice, AI, data science, project management and the humanities took part. The session advanced AICE’s work on responsible development and strengthened links with the REFLECT community.
  • Week of Health and Innovation, Odense, 30 to 31 October
    Lea Bohn promoted AICE through networking with clinicians, regional innovation partners and industry contacts.

November 2024

  • FrAIdays, Umeå University, 15 November
    Madeleine Hayenhjelm delivered the public lecture Getting the Ethics of AI Right. Around 35 attended on site with additional participants online. The session was recorded in the Umeå University repository.
  • Colon Capsule Endoscopy Course, 15 November
    Anastasios (Tassos) Koulaouzidis highlighted AICE aims and progress to clinical participants.
  • AI in Digestive Healthcare Conference, 28 to 29 November
    Anastasios (Tassos) Koulaouzidis presented insights on integrating AI-supported capsule endoscopy into colorectal cancer diagnostics.
  • Global Capsule Summit, Chongqing, 30 November
    Benedicte Schelde Olesen presented on AICE’s algorithmic work to an audience of c.500.

December 2024

  • Panhellenic Congress of Gastroenterology, Greece, 1 December
    Konstantinos Triantafyllou delivered a presentation on colorectal diagnostics to c.30 gastroenterologists.
